🏖 THE ENGLISH SEASIDE 🏖
With miles of golden sand and safe swimming in the sea shallows, Dymchurch Beach is a surefire hit with families. Though busy in the summer months, out of season you can often have the beach almost to yourself — even on a sunny Spring Sunday ☀️😎
💛 There are wonderful beaches within easy reach of Barnfield House…you can be on Camber Sands in 30 minutes, Dymchurch and St Mary's Bay in under an hour.
⭐️ With beaches like this, it's perhaps no surprise that Kent's coastline makes the cut in Lonely Planet's ‘Best in Travel 2022’ list of 10 hottest regions to visit this year — in 4th place and the only UK destination to be included.

BLUEBELLS without leaving home?
There are so many fabulous woods close to Barnfield House, plus famous estates such as @holeparkgarden @scotneycastle_nt and @sissinghurstcastlegardennt
Even in our garden, they are putting on a fabulous show this year…in the shade of the mighty oaks on the steep banks of the pond and, here, circling the trunk of an oak felled by a storm years ago.

🦋A magical day at Sissinghurst 🌺

☀️ The Pantiles in sunshine ☀️
Visitors have flocked to this corner of Kent for over 400 years, ever since the chance discovery in 1606 of a spring rich in mineral deposits. The Chalybeate Spring attracted royalty and gentry keen on taking the spa waters for their healing qualities….and gradually the historic spa town of Royal Tunbridge Wells was built around it.
The Pantiles dates from the 18th Century, and was THE place to be seen in Georgian England. At the time the Upper Walk was the exclusive domain of the gentry, and everyone else was restricted to the Lower Walk…everyone in their place!
Today the Pantiles is still the top attraction in Tunbridge Wells — a perfect slice of Georgian history just 13 miles from Barnfield House. The colonnaded walkway and the extraordinary 19th and 19th Century buildings house an eclectic collection of restaurants, cafes, independent shops, and galleries. On a Spring day it is delightful to sit in the sunshine enjoying a coffee or glass of wine with friends. And there is always another reason to return, thanks to a creative programme of events — e.g. the Pantiles Food Festival (14th and 15th May) and Jazz evenings every Thursday.
💧And if you're lucky, you can still enjoy the Chalybeate Spring waters dispensed by a costumed Bath House 'dipper'.

🌷SISSINGHURST IN SPRING 🌺
"There is such a sense of urgency in the garden at this time of year. Nature is in charge and won't relinquish its grip for several months." This message from head gardener Troy Scott Smith greeted visitors to Sissinghurst Castle Garden this weekend. I love his blackboard description of coaxing and cajoling the garden into controlled exuberance!
The world-renowned garden is top of the 'Not To Be Missed' list for many of our guests — it's just 7 miles from Barnfield House, and one of many fabulous @nationaltrust estates in the area. Have you visited Sissinghurst? And do you have a favourite National Trust place to recommend?

💡Aren't collectable ceramics by local artists the perfect souvenirs of your holiday? 💡
I was delighted to come across some fabulous Kent-based artists exhibiting at @potfest.co.uk — a three-day ceramics market held this past weekend in the grounds of @glyndeplace near Lewes in East Sussex.
Helen Rondell's raku fired pieces are stunning both in shape and surface pattern. "I find Raku an exciting way of firing, and I feel that it makes each piece quite individual, as the ‘cracks’ have a life of their own." Such exciting creations!
@helenrondell
(Photos 1 & 2)
I also loved the bold black and white sgraffito pieces by Vicky Hageman as well as her pink and green collections. "I make pots for everyday use" she says. "The pieces are fine, yet robust enough to be held, filled, drunk out of and eaten from. Nothing gives me more pleasure than to see my pieces become part of everyday living in other’s homes. "
@vichageman
(Photos 3, 4, 5)
Hand crafted ceramics are the most wonderful mementos of special trips. e.g. there's a beautiful bowl I hand-carried back from Uluru in Australia's Northern Territories —you'll find it in the drawing room at Barnfield House. So any piece by Helen or Vicky would be a wonderful way to remember your holiday in Kent.
